“Forgiving God, I confess how blind I am to the subtle ways the desires of my heart are quickly crowned and begin to rule my life instead of you. Reclaim my heart and teach me to discern in my desires what is good and pleasing to you, and what runs counter to your good reign. Amen”

Psalm 86:6 Give ear, O LORD, to my prayer; listen to my plea for grace.
7 In the day of my trouble I call upon you, for you answer me.
8 There is none like you among the gods, O Lord, nor are there any works like yours.
9 All the nations you have made shall come and worship before you, O Lord, and shall glorify your name.
“Thy kingdom come”; that is, rule us so by thy word and Spirit, that we may submit ourselves more and more to thee; preserve and increase thy church; destroy the works of the devil, and all violence which would exalt itself against thee; and also all wicked counsels devised against thy holy word; till the full perfection of thy kingdom take place, wherein thou shalt be all in all. (Heidelberg Catechism, Q. 123)
“Sovereign God, I want to claim You for my cause, but You will not be made a mascot for my squad; You call me to Your kingdom. Rule me by Your word and Spirit so that more and more I may stand on the holy ground of obedience to You.” (from “Seeking God’s Face” by Philip F. Reinders)
